Methodist Alliance for Patients and Physicians (MAP2) is the new operating name for the Methodist Patient-Centered Accountable Care Organization (MPCACO). MPCACO has been effective since 2012 and has achieved nationally recognized success in improving the quality of care given to patients.
When it comes to your Medicare benefits, how MAP2 works, and how to opt-out of sharing medical information, nothing has changed. However, only traditional Medicare beneficiaries are eligible for MAP2. Medicare Advantage Plans are excluded from eligibility.
As a Medicare beneficiary, you still have access to the same group of doctors, nurses, hospitals, and other healthcare providers that work together to provide seamless, quality care. In fact, you may have already been notified by one of your physicians regarding their participation in MAP2/MPCACO. Through this coordinated care between a team of healthcare providers, your medical visits will include more comprehensive and personalized treatment.
What Should I Know About Coordinated Health care?
Through MAP2 or MPCACO, Medicare beneficiaries have the opportunity to enhance the care they receive in hospitals, their primary care physician’s office, and many other locations. The key to coordinated care is communication. Participating healthcare providers you see will know what is going on, what medicine you are taking, what happened during your last emergency room visit, and what your latest bloodwork shows.
Overall, you save in multiple ways:
- Reduced amount of medical forms to fill out
- Fewer repeat medical tests, drastically reducing medical costs throughout the year
- Personalized care, coordinated through the variety of participating specialists you see
- Care Navigators that are available to answer any questions you might have about your medical care
- Check-up calls to ensure your medications are working properly and that you are feeling your best
How does MAP2 work?
Coordinated care starts with Medicare sharing certain medical information with your physician’s ACO, in this case, MAP2. The type of information, such as medical conditions, prescriptions, visits to the doctor, and hospital stays, are able to provide physicians within the ACO a full picture of your medical history, without you having to take the time filling out paperwork. You will still be asked general health questions during physician visits in order to complete the comprehensive health check.
As a Medicare beneficiary, you still have the right to see any physician you choose to, whether or not they’re participating in an ACO. In addition, you have the right to tell Medicare not to share your medical information with ACOs.

I want MAP2!
If you have Original Medicare and not a Medicare Advantage Plan, and your physician is participating or starts to participate in MAP2, you will be automatically enrolled in the program. There is nothing more you need to do in order to participate. In order to reap the full benefits of coordinated care, you may look into our MAP2 provider list to find participating physicians in each specialty, as well as hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing facilities, and more.
If you do not wish to participate, you can tell Medicare not to share your medical information with ACOs. Without taking this step, your information will be shared automatically with ACOs to help improve the quality of care given to patients.
