Methodist Health System affiliate recognized for Medicare savings for fifth consecutive year

Patient-Centered ACO saved taxpayers millions of dollars while keeping patients healthier

The Methodist Patient-Centered ACO (MPCACO) is recognized as one of the top performing Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) in the nation, according to The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The goal of an ACO is to ensure that patients, especially the chronically ill, get the right coordinated care at the right time, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.

When an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) demonstrates that it has achieved high-quality care and effectively reduced spending of healthcare dollars, it is able to share in the savings generated for Medicare and tax payers through this program. In 2017, MPCACO achieved more savings per beneficiary than any other ACO in North Texas. The attributed savings was more than $14 million in 2017. Over the past five periods, MPCACO is attributed to saving CMS more than $69 million.

“Methodist’s alliance of physicians have put their time and resources into pursuing this model of care,” says George Williams, MD, MMM, FACEP, President, Methodist Patient Centered ACO. “The coordination between primary care physicians, hospitalists, specialists and other providers that the Methodist Patient Centered ACO participants provide is part of our mission to improve and save lives through compassionate, quality healthcare.”

MPCACO is proud to be the first ACO in North Texas to qualify for shared savings five years in a row.

“Methodist Patient Centered ACO continually strives to achieve the high quality outcomes that the Medicare Shared Savings Program demands,” says Brian Jones, MD, FAAFP, Chairman, MPCACO Board of Directors. “It’s just one reason that Methodist is the trusted choice for health and wellness in our community.”
