Diagnostics & Imaging

At Methodist Health System, we use advanced orthopedic imaging tools to create precise and detailed images of damaged bones, joints, and tissues. Finding the best treatment for orthopedic pain, injury, or disease starts with an accurate diagnosis. These diagnostic imaging tests involve scans such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT and PET scans.

Diagnostic and imaging tests offered at Methodist include:

  • Computed tomography (CT or CAT) scans: These imaging tests collects images of the body from different angles. CT scans that can detect a number of health issues, from stroke to kidney stones, assessment of complex fractures, and much more.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): MRIs are a diagnostic tool to examine all areas of the body and can be used to evaluate many different health conditions. They produce clinical images of the soft tissues, organs, body, and other internal bodily structures.
  • X-rays: This is the oldest, most frequently used type of medical imaging test for evaluating body structures, especially the bones. Dense materials show up as white on X-ray images, such as bone or metal. These tests can examine the bones, teeth, chest, and abdomen for many health problems.
  • Arthroscopy: This minimally invasive procedure can diagnose joint problems by see inside your joint without making a large incision. During the procedure, a narrow tube attached to a fiber-optic video camera gathers pictures to diagnose and treat joint conditions. Doctors may turn to arthroscopy if other imaging studies leave diagnostic questions unanswered.
