About Mary Michelle (Shelley) McKean, MSN, APRN, MA, ACNPC-AG

Shelley McKean is a board-certified adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (ACNPC-AG). She specializes in gastroenterology (GI) at Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

McKean joined Methodist Richardson in 2025. She appreciates working in both inpatient and outpatient settings in the medical center’s GI practice. Inpatient hospital care provides a fast-paced and dynamic setting that she enjoys, while the long-term relationships she builds with patients make outpatient care rewarding. McKean’s experience also includes critical care as a nurse practitioner since 2016 and as a registered nurse from 2010 to 2016.

In addition to nursing degrees and credentials, McKean also completed graduate-level study in counseling and guidance. She is passionate about validating a patient’s experiences. She helps patients understand treatment plans and involves them in choices about their ongoing care.

McKean’s role as a nurse practitioner allows her to integrate her core values with her advanced clinical training. She finds meaning in contributing to a team that provides comprehensive, evidence-based care.

When she is not helping patients, McKean enjoys traveling, hosting game nights, and mentoring nurse practitioner students.
