Types of sports injuries we treat
At Methodist Celina, we care for a wide range of sports injuries, including:
-
ACL tears: A tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), one of the major
ligaments in your knee. It’s more common in sports that involve
rapid pivoting.
-
Meniscus tears: A tear in the cartilage that cushions your knee. It can happen with activities
that involve twisting, squatting, or sudden stops.
-
Rotator cuff injuries: Damage to the muscles and tendons that help keep your shoulder joint in
place. These injuries make it difficult to lift or rotate your arm.
-
Shoulder dislocation: The upper arm bone pops out of the shoulder joint. It causes pain and
swelling that make it difficult to move your shoulder.
-
Sprains and strains: Sprains happen when ligaments are stretched or torn from twisting the
joint in an unusual way. Strains affect muscles or tendons and are typically
due to overuse.
-
Stress fractures: Tiny cracks in bones from overuse. They occur frequently in runners, gymnasts,
and other athletes who train intensely.
-
Tendonitis: Inflammation in a tendon, which is tissue that connects muscle to bone.
It’s often due to repetitive motions, like throwing and running.
