Why Choose Methodist Midlothian for Cardiology

At Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, we offer heart care in a supportive environment. From diagnosis through treatment and beyond, you’ll have a team of experienced cardiologists dedicated to your well-being.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Advanced technology: We provide a range of procedures to diagnose and treat heart and vascular conditions in our cardiac catheterization (cath) lab. Our skilled team uses the advanced technology to deliver the best possible care.
  • Minimally invasive options: In our cardiac cath lab, we specialize in less invasive procedures that use a catheter (thin tube), which we guide through a small incision. These techniques have a lower risk of complications and involve less recovery time.
  • Customized preventive care: We’re committed to helping you prevent heart disease. That’s why our services include an individualized risk assessment, heart disease screenings, and education about how to keep your heart healthy. We consider your health and lifestyle so we can provide tailored care.
  • Team approach: Your team may include cardiologists, electrophysiologists, interventional radiologists, or vascular surgeons. We work closely to offer coordinated and comprehensive care. Whether you need a routine screening or advanced treatment, you can trust our experience.

Cardiovascular Conditions We Treat

We diagnose and treat many conditions and diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels. Some of the most common cardiovascular conditions we treat include:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AFib) and other types of arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat)
  • Aortic aneurysm, when a life-threatening bulge develops in the aorta (the main vessel that carries blood from the heart to the body)
  • Coronary artery disease, or CAD, plaque buildup in the vessels that carry blood to the heart
  • Heart failure, when the heart cannot pump blood through the body like it should
  • Heart valve disease, a group of disorders that affect how the valves pump blood through the heart
  • Peripheral artery disease, or PAD, when the blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart become narrowed

Diagnostic Procedures We Offer

An accurate diagnosis enables us to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you. We use advanced technology to diagnose and evaluate cardiovascular disease.

Your provider will perform a physical evaluation and may recommend blood tests, imaging studies, or other tests, such as:

  • Angiogram: This imaging study uses X-rays to produce pictures of your heart and blood vessels.
  • Cardiac stress tests: We use these exercise tests to evaluate your heart’s ability to pump blood. Our team monitors your heart and blood vessels while you’re active and when you’re at rest.
  • Duplex ultrasound: This imaging study uses sound waves to check how your blood moves through your blood vessels.
  • Echocardiogram (heart ultrasound): An echocardiogram creates images of the heart and vessels so your care team can evaluate them.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG): This test measures your heart’s activity to detect an irregular heartbeat and evaluate how your heart pumps blood.

Cardiovascular Treatments We Offer

The heart and vascular specialists at Methodist Midlothian offer several noninvasive treatments and interventional procedures to treat cardiovascular conditions. At our cardiac cath lab, we use minimally invasive techniques that reduce recovery time. We specialize in:

  • Angioplasty and stenting: Skilled cardiac specialists guide a thin catheter through a small incision toward the heart to see inside blood vessels. We may place a stent to open blocked vessels and allow blood to flow through. Whenever possible, we guide the catheter through an incision in the wrist because it usually involves less pain than a groin incision.
  • Medications and lifestyle changes: We offer a comprehensive approach to treat heart failure. Our team may recommend heart failure medications or lifestyle changes through diet, exercise, and other heart-healthy habits. You receive coordinated care and personalized support.
  • Implantable cardiac devices: If you have AFib or another type of irregular heartbeat, you may need an implantable defibrillator and pacemaker. We place these cardiac devices under the skin. They help to correct your heart’s rhythm using wires that extend to your heart.
