Pre Assessment Testing

Our Pre-Assessment Testing (PAT) program is designed to ensure every patient is prepared — physically, emotionally, and logistically — for their upcoming surgery. With a blend of clinical expertise, personalized care, and strategic coordination, PAT optimizes your health and enhances outcomes.

What is PAT? PAT is a dedicated team of pre-anesthesia nurses who work in close partnership with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and primary care teams to ensure patients are ready for surgery. This may involve a phone call, telehealth visit, or in-person assessment depending on your surgical needs.

Who will be referred to PAT? If your procedure requires optimization, your surgeon’s office will refer you to PAT. Patients are selected based on their health history, type of procedure, and anesthesia requirements. Not all patients require the same preparation — we assess and customize every plan.

What do we focus on? Our assessments are built around 6 key optimization domains:

  • Medical Condition & Surgical Risk
  • Medications & Supplements
  • Substance Use (Alcohol, Nicotine, Drugs)
  • Nutritional & Physical Readiness
  • Emotional & Mental Health
  • Testing, Imaging & Clearances

How PAT helps you:

  • Reduces same-day cancellations
  • Avoids unnecessary testing
  • Saves money and time
  • Supports faster recovery
  • Streamlines surgical planning
  • Coordinates seamlessly with your medical team via EPIC

What to expect from PAT:

  1. A call or message from our PAT team
  2. A short phone or virtual interview
  3. Guidance on labs, imaging, or specialist clearances if needed
  4. A final review to confirm you are ready for surgery
