At Methodist Southlake Medical Center, we provide care for all heart and
vascular conditions. Our physicians diagnose, manage, and treat cardiovascular
diseases using advanced technology.
Highlights of our program include:
-
Advanced technology: We use advanced equipment, techniques, and sophisticated imaging technology
to diagnose and treat heart and vascular disorders. We have our own cardiac
catheterization lab, where we deliver minimally invasive procedures and
the highest level of care.
-
Preventive care: Our services also include comprehensive preventive care tailored to your
health and lifestyle. We work with you to assess your risk of cardiovascular
disease and offer screenings, education, and ongoing support to keep you healthy.
-
Specialized in vascular (blood vessels) disorders: Our team has extensive experience treating deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
and pulmonary embolisms (PE) quickly and effectively. We are skilled in
using minimally invasive treatments.
Cardiovascular Conditions We Treat
Our heart and vein specialists treat a wide range of diseases and disorders.
Some of the most common cardiovascular conditions we treat are:
- Atrial fibrillation (AFib) and other types of irregular heartbeat
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot that often develops in the leg
and can travel to other parts of the body through blood vessels
- Pulmonary embolism (PE), a life-threatening condition that occurs when
a blood clot travels to the lungs, reducing or cutting off blood supply
- Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- Peripheral artery disease or PAD (narrowing of the blood vessels that carry
blood from the heart to other parts of the body)
Diagnostic Procedures We Offer
Our Methodist Southlake team uses advanced technology to detect and evaluate
cardiovascular disease (diseases that affect the heart or blood vessels).
We provide routine screenings and an accurate diagnosis so we can determine
the most appropriate treatment plan.
Your provider may use diagnostic tools, including:
-
Angiogram: An angiogram creates pictures of the heart and blood vessels using X-rays.
-
Cardiac stress tests: These supervised exercise tests help your doctor evaluate how well your
heart is pumping blood through your body. Your healthcare provider measures
your cardiovascular activity while you’re exercising and immediately
afterward.
-
Echocardiogram (heart ultrasound): This test uses sound waves to produce images of the heart and vessels.
-
Duplex ultrasound: Your provider may use this type of ultrasound to evaluate how your blood
moves through your blood vessels.
-
Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT): During this noninvasive imaging study, your care team injects a safe amount
of radioactive tracer through an IV. Then, they look at your heart with
a special type of camera. The tracer moves through your bloodstream and
helps the camera produce images of your heart and blood vessels.
-
Coronary calcium score: This CT (computed tomography) scan measures the amount of calcium in your
coronary arteries. It can detect a buildup of a waxy, fatty substance
(plaque) that can narrow or block the arteries.
-
CT coronary angiogram: A CT coronary angiogram uses X-rays to create images of the arteries that
supply blood to the heart. We use this test to diagnose many heart conditions.
It doesn’t require incisions and involves very little recovery time.
Cardiovascular Treatments We Offer
Our heart and vascular specialists provide noninvasive procedures and use
minimally invasive techniques to treat cardiovascular concerns. We specialize in:
-
Angioplasty and stenting: We offer many minimally invasive procedures in our cardiac catheterization
lab. Our cardiac team is skilled at restoring blood flow to blocked arteries
and treating blood clots in blood vessels, all through a small incision
in the groin.
-
Atherectomy techniques: Our team has extensive experience treating narrowed or blocked blood vessels.
During an atherectomy, we insert a rotating tool into the blood vessel
through a small, thin tube. We use the tool to remove plaque buildup inside
the blood vessel.
-
Implantable cardiac devices: To treat AFib and other types of irregular heartbeat, we offer implantable
defibrillators and pacemakers. These cardiac devices are placed under
your skin and may have wires that extend to your heart. They work by correcting
your heart’s rhythm.
Minimally invasive treatments for DVT and embolism
Embolism and DVT happen when a blood clot forms in a blood vessel. DVT
usually affects your legs, but clots can form anywhere in the body. If
a piece of the clot breaks off and travels to the lungs, it can cause
a pulmonary embolism. That’s when the clot blocks the flow of blood
and can lead to life-threatening health problems.
We offer minimally invasive treatments for DVT and embolisms. Your provider
breaks up or removes the clot using a catheter (a small, thin tube) inserted
into the blood vessel. You’re often able to go home the same day
of the procedure.
