Meet The Surgeon

Dr. Halawi was born and raised in Tyre, Lebanon. He came to the U.S. on his own at age 17 and graduated with highest distinction from the University of Houston. After college, Dr. Halawi completed a research fellowship in genomics and bioinformatics at the National Institutes of Health. He then attended Duke University School of Medicine, where he was the recipient of some of the most prestigious national accolades.

Dr. Halawi completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Duke University Hospital followed by a fellowship in adult reconstructive hip and knee surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. He culminated his training in the United Kingdom and Germany as the recipient of the prestigious Hip Society Maurice E. Müller Traveling Fellowship.

Dr. Halawi specializes in hip and knee replacement, including complex and revision surgeries. He is a strong believer in patient-centered surgery, utilizing a variety of surgical approaches, implants, and evidence-based perioperative protocols to optimize outcomes for each patient. He is skilled in minimally invasive and rapid recovery techniques and is an expert in same-day, opioid-free total joint replacement.

Prior to joining Methodist Orthopedic Specialists, Dr. Halawi was an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Director of Clinical Research, and Chief Quality Officer for Musculoskeletal Serves at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and other publications.
