Why Choose Methodist Health System for Stroke Care

When a stroke happens, every minute counts. At Methodist Health System, we provide care to help restore blood flow to the brain. Our goal is to minimize brain damage and improve your chances of making a full recovery.

Highlights of our stroke programs include:

  • 24-hour stroke care: Medical teams at Methodist hospitals are ready to provide emergency stroke treatment anytime day and night.
  • Synchronized and efficient treatment: Vascular specialists work together to diagnose and treat strokes quickly. We provide critical treatment as quickly as possible.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable professionals: We form robust stroke care teams by bringing together specialists with advanced training. These teams feature neurologists, neurosurgeons, vascular surgeons, specialty-trained nurses, and neurological technologists.

Stroke Conditions We Treat

Stroke specialists at Methodist treat many kinds of strokes. Strokes fall into two main categories:

  • Ischemic strokes: This type of stroke accounts for almost 90% of all strokes. It occurs when a clot forms in a blood vessel that brings blood to the brain. This restricts blood flow and reduces the amount of oxygen and nutrients to the brain.
  • Hemorrhagic strokes: This type of stroke accounts for less than 15% of all strokes. It occurs when a weakened blood vessel in the brain ruptures and starts to leak. This causes blood to accumulate and may increase pressure on brain tissue.

Stroke teams at Methodist also treat transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), also known as mini-strokes. While TIAs do not cause permanent damage, they serve as warning signs of a future stroke and require prompt medical attention.

Advanced Treatments for Precise Stroke Care

At Methodist, stroke care teams respond with speed and precision. We quickly identify the cause of stroke by locating the clot or ruptured blood vessel that’s affecting blood flow. Then, we work to remove the clot or repair the ruptured blood vessel. We prioritize accuracy and efficiency in order to help restore proper blood flow to the brain and minimize brain damage.
