About John Avila, MD
John Avila, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician at Methodist Family Health Center – Davis Street and Methodist Dallas Medical Center. He provides general medical care for adults of any age. He also has a special interest in helping people with high blood pressure and diabetes manage these ongoing conditions.
Dr. Avila loves building long-lasting relationships with patients. His thorough and detailed approach includes a strong emphasis on the physical and mental aspects of health and wellness. Providing this whole-person care to patients is what inspires him to be the best physician he can be.
Dr. Avila chose to specialize in internal medicine because he appreciates the depth and vastness it has to offer. His knowledge of both basic medical conditions and rare diagnoses benefits his patients and motivates him as an internist.
Dr. Avila is committed to the future of medicine and has played an active role in training the next generation of doctors. Specifically, he served as an academic hospitalist at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he taught internal medicine residents and medical students.
He also contributes to medical knowledge through research. He has studied aspects of conditions such as lupus (a chronic autoimmune disorder), HIV infection and pneumonia. He also studied public health concerns, such as vaccinations and opioid prescription practices. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Cureus and Graduate Medical Education Research Journal.
In his personal time, Dr. Avila enjoys food and dining, listening to music, traveling and interior design.
