About Denise A. Johnson, MD
Denise Johnson, MD, FAAFP, is a board-certified family medicine doctor specializing in disease management and women’s health and wellness. Dr. Johnson has a particular interest in treating asthma, COPD, diabetes, and hypertension (high blood pressure).
Dr. Johnson began practicing medicine in 1991 and joined Methodist Family Health Center – Murphy in 2018 She decided she wanted to be a physician at the age of 7. Inspired by the 1970 women’s health book “Our Bodies, Ourselves,” she encouraged self-awareness and self-care among her peers. She was initially drawn to obstetrics-gynecology as a specialty. However, she chose family medicine during medical school when she discovered that she was interested in every topic during her clinical rotations.
In her family medicine practice, Dr. Johnson enjoys educating patients and providing whole-person care. Her philosophy is shared decision-making, with the patient as the “captain” and the provider as the “first mate.” She values building relationships and taking care of patients throughout their lives.
When she isn’t seeing patients, Dr. Johnson enjoys reading and sports, keeping physically active through her Peloton community.
