About David P. Mason, MD

Dr. Mason was born and raised in Boston and received his undergraduate degree at Harvard College and Medical degree at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons. He trained at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, a Harvard teaching hospital. After completing his training, he served as a staff surgeon at Johns Hopkins University. He then practiced at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland for over a decade before moving Dallas to serve as founder and chief of a major thoracic surgery department.




Dr. Mason is an internationally recognized expert in the field of thoracic surgery and has published over a hundred articles and text book chapters in the field. He has trained many surgical residents and fellows. His areas of interest include thoracic oncology, esophageal disorders and lung transplantation, and he is a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive surgery.




He has a particular expertise in thoracic oncology and complex, re-operative foregut surgery. He is one of the few surgeons in the United States with extensive experience in surgery for malignant mesothelioma and tracheal stenosis.




Most importantly, Dr. Mason is best known for his sincerity, caring and down to earth bedside manner. He prides himself in being accessible to his patients.
