Thank you for your interest in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Methodist
Dallas Medical Center, one of the largest and longest-standing hospitals
in Dallas, Texas.
As a pharmacy resident at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, you will be
part of a department that puts patient care as our number one priority.

Methodist Dallas Medical Center
Purpose
The PGY1 residency program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education
and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills,
and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and
objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs
will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership,
and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification
in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training
opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
The PGY1 residency program at Methodist Dallas Medical Center is designed
to give the resident a structured core of learning objectives, with considerable
latitude and flexibility to provide expanded involvement in those areas
where special interests exist.
General Information
Clinical rotations in the 12-month, hospital-based PGY1 Residency Program
at Methodist Dallas are offered in a variety of clinical areas. The resident's
responsibilities include:

Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide optimal
patient care - Providing pharmacotherapy management including pharmacokinetics consults
- Educating the interdisciplinary team on drug therapy
Other responsibilities include:

Completion of a major research project that is presented at the ASHP Midyear
Clinical Meeting and regional residency conference - (Alcalde) - Completion of a medication utilization evaluation
- Presenting various journal clubs, case presentations, and in-services

Opportunity to attain a teaching certificate through University of North
Texas College of Pharmacy
As a pharmacy resident you are afforded the opportunity to be a member
of the hospital's pharmacy staff and serve as a pharmacist in the department.
Additionally, residents are expected to be involved with various hospital
committees including, but not limited to, P&T and Quality & Safety
committees.

Elective Rotations (residents will select 3)
- Emergency Medicine
- Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship – Advanced
- Informatics
- Neuro Critical Care
- Pharmacy Administration (focused)
- Solid Organ Transplant (kidney or liver)
- Hepatology
Application Process
In order to be considered for the residency program at Methodist Dallas
Medical Center, you must complete each of the following steps:

ASHP Resident Matching Program -
Submit the following via the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application
Service (PhORCAS):
- Current curriculum vitae
- Letter of intent
- Three references (using the PhORCAS reference template)
- An official copy of the college of pharmacy transcript
Requirements for Acceptance
- Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
- Full eligibility for Texas licensure
- Eligibility for employment at Methodist Dallas Medical Center
- Participation in the residency matching program
- On-site interview (virtual can be conducted on a case by case basis)
