Da Vinci® Robotic System at Methodist Charlton Takes Surgery Beyond the Limits of the Human Hand

The latest evolution in surgical and robotics technology, the da Vinci Surgical System, is now available at Methodist Charlton Medical Center. Robot-assisted surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System allows the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity, and control. For most patients, da Vinci surgery offers numerous benefits over traditional surgery, including smaller incisions, significantly less pain, fewer complications, less scarring, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster return to normal daily activities.

The da Vinci robotic surgical system is used by specially trained surgeons for gynecologic, urologic, colorectal, cardio-thoracic and general surgery. Surgeons operate through just a few small 1 to 2 centimeter incisions. The surgeon is 100% in control of the da Vinci System, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements using tiny instruments. The da Vinci System also features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system.

The first da Vinci surgery at Methodist Charlton was performed February 10 by da Vinci trained surgeon Anil Tibrewal, MD, a general surgeon on the Methodist Charlton medical staff. Dr. Tibrewal performed a cholecystectomy, or gallbladder surgery.

“We are committed to our mission of putting our patients first and strive to provide them with the most minimally invasive surgical options available,” says Methodist Charlton President Jonathan S. Davis, FACHE. “Da Vinci offers an effective alternative to traditional open surgery and laparoscopy that allows physicians to provide patients excellent options. The da Vinci system takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand.”

Physicians have used the da Vinci System successfully worldwide in approximately 1.5 million various surgical procedures to date. The da Vinci System is available at Methodist Charlton, Methodist Dallas, Methodist Mansfield, and Methodist Richardson Medical Centers.
