Level III maternity center for high-risk pregnancies and deliveries

We are a Level III maternity center (Level IV being the highest). This distinction highlights our ability to provide advanced care for women with higher-risk pregnancies and more complex deliveries.

Whether you’re managing preeclampsia (high blood pressure) or experiencing early-term labor, our team is here for you. We treat underlying conditions with close monitoring and personalized care to help reduce the risk of complications. Our skilled neonatal nursing team delivers dedicated, 1-to-1 care for babies in the NICU. We assign each baby a specialized nurse who focuses on their needs.

Classes and Support Groups for Post-Delivery

We believe in preparing you for your parenting journey. That’s why we offer free baby care and breastfeeding classes. These classes help to equip you with tools and resources to care for your baby with confidence.

During baby care class, you have the chance to learn:

  • What’s normal in newborn appearance
  • Common newborn behaviors
  • Effective techniques for calming your baby
  • How to bathe, diaper, swaddle, and comfort your baby

During breastfeeding class, you may learn:

  • Breast anatomy and physiology
  • Common breastfeeding challenges and how to prevent and solve them
  • Effective latch techniques
  • How to recognize your baby’s feeding cues
  • How to use a pump and store your breastmilk
  • Tips for breastfeeding and pumping as you return to work

Lactation Support Services

As part of our commitment to supporting your baby’s health, we assist mothers in their breastfeeding journey. We are proud that the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Hospital Association recognize us as a Texas Ten Step facility for breastfeeding education and support.

We provide knowledgeable lactation education and support. You may want our help if you:

  • Are a first-time mother
  • Experience nipple pain
  • Have difficulty getting your baby to latch to your breast
  • Need to increase your milk supply
  • Want to learn how best to hold your baby while breastfeeding

Methodist Charlton is also a drop-off location for donor breast milk through the North Texas Mother's Milk Bank. If you’re unable to breastfeed, and you meet certain criteria, you may qualify to receive donated milk.

Allocated quiet hours for rest and recovery

We provide quiet time for you and your baby, so you can focus on bonding. We give you the time you need to rest and recover for the first 30 minutes after delivery. Quiet hours are then respected every day from 1 to 3 p.m. and 1 to 3 a.m.

During quiet hours, visitors are not allowed unless medically necessary or invited by mom. This time is intended to:

  • Offer rest for an extended period
  • Minimize postpartum sleep deficiency
  • Promote bonding between mom and baby, and dad and baby
  • Allow breastfeeding without interruption
  • Help families shift from the hospital schedule to their home schedule
