Methodist Dallas is also a Level I Trauma Center with over 2,200 trauma admissions per year. The hospital's trauma center offers general surgery residents experience with a variety of emergency procedures/operations as well as critical care management. Our 36-bed surgical ICU offers residents an invaluable education in the treatment of critically ill patients, and also serves to support the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.

Clinical Experiences

Our surgical faculty includes general and specialist surgeons who are committed to patient-centered care and resident education. Patients present with a wide variety of surgical problems, ranging from straightforward to very complex, and this allows for a robust clinical experience and excellent operative volumes. Residents work closely, often one-on-one, with our faculty surgeons learning the latest techniques in surgery, including minimally invasive approaches. Our residents complete their training having met all requirements for robotic surgery certification.

The organ transplant and hepatopacreaticobiliary experience at Methodist is truly unique. Our residents work directly with the surgeons of the Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas participating in liver, pancreas, kidney, and multi-organ transplants, and the complex perioperative management. Methodist has also become a tertiary hepatopancreatobiliary referral center, supporting a busy HPB Fellowship, with patients from North Texas and surrounding states seeking and receiving state-of-the art care. The combination of these rotational experiences leads our residents to finish training with operative HPB experience in the top decile of surgical programs.
