DALLAS — The nursing staff at Methodist Southwest Medical Center has been recognized as a Magnet® with Distinction organization, one of fewer than 60 hospitals nationwide to earn the honor from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
"Magnet designation is a hallmark of nursing excellence, recognizing organizations that demonstrate exceptional nursing practice, innovation, leadership, and patient care," said Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive Jolyn Angus, DNP, MBA, RN. “Earning Magnet with Distinction is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects Methodist Southwest's sustained commitment to nursing excellence and exceptional patient care."
This redesignation from the ANCC singles out the nursing staff as the first Methodist Health System hospital to earn Magnet with Distinction and one of fewer than a dozen statewide to join the elite tier, an honor reserved for the top 1% nationwide. Methodist Southwest earned its first Magnet designation five years ago, when it was still Methodist Charlton.
“This is a tremendous milestone for Methodist Southwest and one that our entire hospital can celebrate," Methodist Southwest President Michael Stewart said. "Achieving Magnet with Distinction recognizes the culture of excellence our nurses have built and the strong collaboration they share with the physicians on the medical staff and ancillary staff. Together, they make a difference for our patients and families every single day.”
The Magnet with Distinction designation was started in 2023 to celebrate hospitals and healthcare organizations that exceed the scoring thresholds required to attain Magnet designation. Based on validated empirical data, Magnet with Distinction raises the bar to recognize top-tier organizations that have achieved a prestigious level of nursing excellence while addressing emerging challenges and changes in healthcare moving forward.
“Achieving Magnet with Distinction places our hospital among an exceptional group of organizations recognized for the highest levels of nursing excellence," said Chief Nursing Officer Jeremy Taylor, MHA, BSN, RN, CENP, VP of Nursing at Methodist Southwest. "This rare honor reflects the extraordinary commitment of our nurses to exceptional patient care, innovation, and continuous improvement. I am incredibly proud of our team and the culture of excellence we have built together.”
