Medical Staff Helping an Adult Male

Unintentional injury remains a leading cause of death and disability across all age groups in the United States. Methodist Dallas Trauma Services is dedicated to preventing injuries before they occur through education, evidence-based programs, and community partnerships throughout North Texas.

Our Injury Prevention initiatives focus on increasing safety awareness, promoting healthy behaviors, and reducing preventable injuries in our community.

Stop the Bleed

Severe bleeding can become life-threatening within minutes. The Stop the Bleed program teaches community members how to recognize and control life-threatening bleeding until emergency responders arrive. Trainings include hands-on practice with direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquet application and are available for workplaces, schools, and community groups. MDMC Injury Prevention & Community Outreach teaches this class monthly. You can register for this class for FREE today by visiting the link below and looking up "Methodist Dallas Medical Center" under "Refine Search": https://cms.bleedingcontrol.org/class/search

Older Adult Fall Prevention

Falls are a major cause of injury among older adults, often resulting in fractures, head injuries, and hospitalizations. Methodist Dallas offers evidence-based fall prevention programs designed to improve balance, strength, and confidence while reducing fall risk.

Programs may include:

  • Interactive education sessions
  • Balance and strength training
  • Community-based prevention presentations
Older Adult and Teen Driving Safety

Age-related changes in older adults can increase injury risk during motor vehicle crashes, and teen drivers also face increased crash risk due to inexperience and distracted driving. Our driving safety programs help older adults improve vehicle fit, visibility, and driving comfort to enhance safety for themselves and others on the road. Additionally, our teen driving safety programs educate teens, parents, and schools on safe driving behaviors, impaired and distracted driving, and peer-to-peer safety strategies.

Firearm Safety

Methodist Dallas Medical Center’s Firearm Safety program focuses on education, awareness, harm prevention, and secure storage practices. Through community education and counseling, we work to support families in making informed decisions that promote safety while respecting lawful firearm ownership.

Trauma Survivors Network

About the Trauma Survivors Network

The Trauma Survivors Network (TSN) is a national community supported by the American Trauma Society that connects trauma survivors and families with education, resources, and peer support following serious injury.

Through the TSN, patients and families can:

  • Learn about injuries and recovery
  • Connect with other survivors and families
  • Access tools to support physical and emotional healing

Participation in the Trauma Survivors Network helps patients and families navigate recovery and reminds them that they are not alone after injury.
