Hospital Affiliations Bio Dr. Stephen Cheng is the surgical director of liver transplantation and hepatobiliary services, and the medical director of transplant informatics. He received his medical training at the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by an internship and residency in surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He also completed a surgical fellowship in multi-organ transplantation at the Mayo Clinic. Prior to coming to Dallas, Dr. Cheng served as director of transplant programs at Ochsner Clinic and Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans. Dr. Cheng is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He specializes in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants, dialysis access procedures, and innovative treatments for liver and bile duct tumors.
Dr. Cheng was formerly Surgical Director for Pancreas Transplantation at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana. As well, he was Director of Abdominal Organ Transplant Program at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Special interests and expertise include hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors and disorders, management of liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension, robotic (daVinci) surgeries and liver transplantation.
