About Richard S. Miller, MD
Richard Miller, MD, FACS, is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. With special interests in emergency and traumatic surgery, Dr. Miller performs lifesaving operations for major trauma patients like laparotomy, splenectomy, liver, bladder and kidney laceration repair, bowel resections, chest injuries including lung and heart injury repair, rib fracture plating, diaphragm repair, and stomach repair. He specializes in management of complex enterocutaneous fistulas and abdominal wall infected mesh.
Dr. Miller received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Natural Sciences from the University of South Florida, in Tampa, Florida. He then earned his Medical Degree from Universidad C.E.T.E.C. at Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. Following graduation, Dr. Miller completed his General Surgery Residency Hahnemann University Hospital/Easton Hospital in Easton, Pennsylvania. He then pursued specialized training through a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Miller has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and written over a dozen book chapters. He is an avid lecturer with expertise in geriatric surgery and trauma, frailty, compassion fatigue and burnout. He has a passion for health and wellness, clinician engagement, and patient experience.
Outside of work, Dr. Miller can be found spending time with his wife, Karen, two daughters Alyssa and Stephanie, his son-in-laws, his grandson, Reese, and their family dog, Sadie. He also enjoys competing in marathons, triathlons, and Ironman competitions.
