The Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program is based at Methodist Charlton Medical Center. Methodist Charlton has served the people of southwest Dallas since December 7, 1975. Originally an 84-bed facility, the hospital has grown to more than 300 beds and is the premier, acute-care community hospital in the area.

Methodist Charlton — A Great Place to Learn

A major advantage of the Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program is that our residents are the only residents at Methodist Charlton. This affords our Family Medicine residents broad-based exposure to inpatients, as well as intensive, hands-on experience needed for exceptional training. Methodist Charlton's full medical staff of physicians, nurses, and other professionals support the residency program enthusiastically, providing multidisciplinary consultation and a team approach to patient care.

Growing to Better Serve a Vibrant Community

Methodist Charlton is located at the heart of the growing south Dallas County and north Ellis County communities of DeSoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Red Oak, Lancaster, and Midlothian. The medical center shares a service area population of well over one million residents with Methodist Dallas Medical Center, which is located 12 miles to the north, and just south of downtown Dallas.

To keep pace with tremendous growth in its immediate service area, Methodist Charlton continues to make major enhancements across its campus. A 72-bed tower (and a 144-bed shell for future expansion) that adjoins the existing 254-bed hospital opened in fall 2009. Diagnostic and treatment room expansion will accommodate additional surgical suites and additional cardiac catheterization services. A 91,200-square-foot medical office building opened in spring 2008, on the heels of a 476-space parking garage for outpatients and visitors.

The Family Practice and Sports Medicine Center at Methodist Charlton Medical CenterOver the last several years, Methodist Charlton has added a $14 million emergency department, a $30 million comprehensive cancer center and radiation therapy treatment center, and renovations to the cardiac catheterization lab, which included the addition of a leading-edge, all-digital imaging system.
