Methodist Health System Launches QuickER Online Emergency Check In
Methodist Dallas and Methodist Mansfield First Hospitals to Go Live with Online Check-In

Online emergency room check-inWhen someone needs urgent care, sometimes the most painful part of going to the emergency room (ER) can often be the wait time. Methodist Health System is making waiting less stressful with the launch of QuickER.org today at Methodist Dallas Medical Center and Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. The service allows patients to select the first available time to be seen in the ER, and then wait at home before going to the emergency department. When patients arrive at their scheduled time, the goal is to see someone in 15 minutes by a healthcare professional.

“QuickerER is intended only for individuals with non-life-threatening or debilitating medical conditions,” said Dr. Robert Simonson, Medical Director of Emergency Department at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. “It’s a simple and convenient way for people with busy lives and busy families to access care for minor emergencies. If you’re in doubt about the severity of your condition, you should always seek immediate care.”

Methodist Dallas is the first Level II Trauma Center in the area to offer online check-in. Methodist Mansfield is the first hospital-based emergency department in Tarrant County to offer the convenience of online check-in at the emergency department.

The online service QuickER.org is a new technology by InQuicker™ that increases convenience for patients. The virtual emergency waiting room allows low-acuity patients to make their appointment in the emergency department. QuickER.org users do not skip other patients who are waiting in the ER. The benefit is the online patient secures a time to be seen and then waits at home, having already checked in.

“For our less emergent patients, the new service provides convenience and comfort and helps physicians have more control over the emergent care experience, especially in emergency rooms with high volumes, like Methodist Dallas and Methodist Mansfield,” says Dr. Ketan Trivedi, Medical Director of Emergency Department at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.

The online scheduling service estimates treatment times based on current patient volumes and allows its users to wait from the comfort of home, rather than the waiting room. Users do not skip the ER wait, or move ahead of individuals in the waiting room. They are just placed in the cue and given a projected treatment time. In the event of the projected treatment time is delayed, QuickER users are sent real-time notifications via phone call and email so they can continue waiting at home.

When the patient checks in online, they are asked for information about their symptoms. The system reviews the patient information using a filter of symptom keywords that may indicate a life-threatening or debilitating medical condition. If symptoms identify a more emergent condition, the patient is prompted to immediately call to 911 and go to the nearest emergency room.
