Local physicians helped hundreds of Midlothian High School students wanting to run track, play basketball, football, soccer or swim, get the medical all clear to play.

Methodist Mansfield Medical Center and Methodist Family Health Center – Midlothian physicians and nurses volunteered and gave more than 300 sports physicals to Midlothian High School athletes on Saturday, May 18 for the 2014 - 2015 school year as required by UIL.

Students were screened for many possible health issues including blood pressure, heart, and lung. Physicians and nurses also asked students about their medical history and tried to determine if the youngsters had any previous undetected muscle or bone injuries.

"A lot of these kids may not see a doctor all year and this may be their only chance for a doctor to look them over because they play sports," said Greg Goerig, head athletic trainer at Midlothian ISD.

The volunteer staff was able to complete the 300 exams between 9 a.m. and noon. Volunteering their time at Midlothian High School were physicians Eric Beadle, MD; Alexander Cho, MD; Jason Lowry, MD; Jay Pribble, PA; Donna Shannon, MD; Ketan Trivedi, MD; and Mary Welp, MD working under the direction of sports specialist Jeff McDaniel, MD. Additionally, volunteers and nurses who assisted in the sports physicals were Angel Biasatti, Karyn Birdwell, Wendy Cave, Shelley Cook, Debra Culmer, GeTonya Dickerson, Bridget Flaherty, Carol Hague, Lacye Lemke, Susan Lewis, Paula McMahan, Heather Morton, Vicki Nix, Sarah Reynolds, Cecilia Taduran, Ethel Tate, Tom Tierney, Emma Vargas, Brandi Williams, Karen Yates, and Laurie Zinn.
