The Methodist Health System Family Medicine Residency Program was selected as a recipient of a 2012 American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Foundation Pfizer Immunization Award in the award category of "Best Practices – Childhood Immunizations."
In acknowledgment of the accomplishment, the residency program will receive $11,000, which represents a monetary award of $10,000 and a $1,000 scholarship to send a resident to the 2012 AAFP National Conference for Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students.
The residency program's application was selected from among 19 submissions. The award application was submitted by Vonda Mayfield, RN, a nurse in the Methodist Charlton Family Medicine Center.
"We all know what a great job Vonda does tracking the immunizations given in our office, the accolades she has received when we are audited by the state, and the hard work she has done to make our EMR immunization section friendlier," says Brett Johnson, MD, director of the Family Medicine Residency Program.
AAFP is one of the largest national medical organizations, representing more than 100,300 family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students nationwide.
