Methodist Diabetes Program Recognized by American Diabetes Association
The Diabetes Self-Management Program at Methodist Health System has once again been recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for outstanding quality diabetes education and services. To receive this recognition, the program effectively demonstrated that it met national standards and passed a rigorous review process by experts who evaluate based on the program's ability to provide patients with a comprehensive individualized education plan. The program has successfully achieved ADA recognition since its inception in 2002.
The program provides individual counseling for diabetes management, gestational diabetes, meal planning, blood glucose self-monitoring, and medication preparation and injection. In addition, patients participate in four comprehensive group classes that cover a variety of topics while being monitored for their progress in achieving their self-management goals. The program uses a multi-disciplinary approach to serve patients. Nurses, dieticians, and physicians work together to make sure that each patient's individual needs are met. A Spanish-speaking diabetes educator is also on staff.
