Welcome from the Director
The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Methodist Health System was founded in 1949 with a vision that remains to this day – training and preparing doctors to either practice as broadly educated and outstanding internal medicine physicians or preparing them for training as subspecialists.

Residents in our program gain valuable experience working in one of the leading teaching hospitals in Dallas, Texas, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, which serves as a tertiary referral center. Because of this, our active liver and kidney transplant programs, and our large trauma program, the high acuity of illness in our patients provides an excellent and diverse patient population for resident training.
Our current faculty of 20 full-time and 50 part-time instructors helps ensure an attentive, well-balanced and comprehensive education in internal medicine. We believe strongly in the value of first-hand experience and responsibility giving residents the opportunity for initial patient contact and medical evaluation, formulation of a differential diagnosis, and implementation of a treatment plan.
Our program enjoys the support and commitment of the faculty and administration, a large, diverse and dependable patient base, and a new, cutting edge facility. We look forward to meeting you.
Leigh Hunter, MD, FACP
