Palliative and Supportive Care

How Palliative Care Can Help

Finding the help you need through palliative care services

Serious or advanced illness can drain the physical, emotional, and financial resources of even the strongest individuals and families. All Methodist Health System patients with serious, complex, or life-threatening illnesses are eligible for palliative care. The Palliative Care program can help at any stage of a serious illness by:

  • Relieving physical symptoms such as
    • Pain
    • Fatigue
    • Shortness of breath
    • Constipation
    • Nausea
    • Loss of appetite
    • Trouble sleeping
  • Helping you and your loved ones understand the illness you’re facing and your treatment options
  • Assisting you and your family in planning for and coordinating long-term care, including advance directives for your wishes about life support or resuscitation
  • Providing spiritual guidance and counseling
  • Arranging for counseling or support groups for coping with or managing illness or for bereavement or grief
  • Smoothing transitions between care settings, such as transferring from the hospital to a rehabilitation center, or arranging for medical care at home
  • Providing the tools, education, and services that allow you to carry on with your day-to-day life
